Theatre Lawrence started in 1984 and moved into its new custom-built facility in 2013. Theatre Lawrence has been Lawrence’s premiere community theatre venue from the start. It’s a place for community members to get participate and showcase their talents as well as view theatrical productions. With several shows every year, there are always opportunities for staying active in the arts. either as an audience member, cast member or volunteer.

With dozens of class options for all ages in a wide range of artistic disciplines such as art, dance, writing, and various textile arts and changes their wide range of courses on a seasonal basis. The University of Kansas Spencer Museum of Art hosts an impressive and culturally diverse collection of over 36,000 artworks and artifacts in all media forms. With such a culturally diverse and creative community it’s no wonder Lawrence is home to so many festivals. Festivals such as the Free State Festival celebrate cinema, art, and ideas in the Lawrence area while a summer favorite, the Lawrence Busker Festival, brings an incredible collection of street performers and artistic exhibitions together for a truly unique Lawrence experience. If food festivals are more your speed, the annual Lawrence Food Truck Festival or Lawrence Restaurant Week will have your tastebuds begging for more. In addition to these Lawrence favorites, our community hosts a wide variety of comedy, music, cinema, and art festivals all year round.

For a broad selection of local arts, the Phoenix Gallery offers inspiring works in a wide variety of media. Other art view spaces include the Cider Gallery and the frequent exhibitions at the Lawrence Arts Center. To get a more extensive tour of Lawrence galleries and artists, the Final Fridays Art Walk events that take place each month are an exciting way to meet, greet, and see local artists and their art.
